This year, we are trying something new for Thanksgiving.

Instead of our typical off-site service, we are starting something called

FAMILY TABLES

WHY CHANGE?

THIS IS THE HOUSE

It’s our model for how we help people to know, love, and follow Jesus. Let’s take a closer look at each of the rooms:

1) On the Front Porch, we engage people so that they encounter Jesus

2) In the Living Room, we enfold people as they begin to believe in Jesus

3) In the Dining Room, we educate people so that they grow in Jesus

4) In the Kitchen, we equip people to serve Jesus

5) Out the back door we send people to share Jesus

In the past, the Thanksgiving service was trying to fill two rooms in the house: the Front Porch and the Dining Room. We have decided to have a more singular focus for our Thanksgiving event in order to be more effective at engaging people to encounter Jesus.

WHAT ARE FAMILY TABLES?

FAMILY TABLES ARE WHERE WE GATHER

In its simplest form, Family Tables are where 4-10 people eat together. Those gathered around the table are acquaintances who don’t know each other on a deep level. The purpose of the Family Table gathering is to show God’s love through the hosts, who serve and pray for each guest.

HOW WILL THIS WORK?

STEP 1: ESTABLISH HOST FAMILIES

There are a few options for how you can host a Family Table. First, you can either host a table by yourself or you can partner up with another family from the church and host together.

Second, you can host a Front Porch table or a Living Room table. Going back to the house model, this means that if you host a Front Porch table, you are going to invite someone from the community to have dinner with you. If you host a Living Room table, this means you are going to invite someone who is part of the church but who you do not know well.

You don’t have to host in your home; you can go to a restaurant, go snow-shoeing and have a winter picnic, or go anywhere you can eat together.

We want to have all of our hosts established by October 26th.

STEP 2: INVITE GUESTS

Inviting your guests happens October 27 - November 10.

Here are some ideas of people you can invite if you are hosting a Front Porch Table: Co-workers, Employees, Service Providers (mailman, hairdresser, your favorite cashier at the grocery store), Neighbors, etc.

If you’re hosting a Living Room Table, try to invite someone from church who you do not know well.

STEP 3: EAT TOGETHER

The meals will take place during the week of Nov 17-23, whenever and wherever works for you and your guests.

Although this is taking place close to Thanksgiving, it does not have to be a typical Thanksgiving meal. It doesn’t even have to be dinner! You can host brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, or even a dessert gathering.

At some point during your time together, you will ask your guests how they can pray for them. Then you pray together, out loud, for whatever your guests are needing.

If the only thing holding you back from hosting a meal is the cost associated with putting the meal on, there will be some money available for any hosts who need help.

VISION:

People encounter Jesus by experiencing intentional love at the Family Table

MISSION:

Each guest is served and prayed for by the hosts
